Gil Davis/George Woods report.

Gil Davis Memorial Trial & George Woods Memorial Trial

Thanks to Rob Bride and Glad Fish and their team of helpers for their organisational skills in bringing together what were 2 completely different events and making a great success of the night.

32 crews entered the Gil Davis Memorial event with 25 crews completing the course and 7 crews were classified as non finishers.
The event was based at the Neerim hall and took crews along roads north and south of Noojee, Icy Creek and Tanjil Bren.

There were 7 competitive sections that used a mix of route charts and the more traditional navigation of grid references and road names to locate vias and controls. Most crews were caught out with the direction of entry to Control 5 resulting in many a U turn at the appropriately placed bunting before finding the correct route into control. Apparently there was some 'exuberant' driving at a spectator point causing some photographers to abandon their posts
somewhat hastily! The conditions on the night were first-rate, dry, clear and cold, and the choice of roads was excellent, giving crews the promised 'drivers' type event.

In the words of Kim Harper, "last nights event was a fitting
memorial for Gilbert as he would have loved to have driven it, it was his type of rally."
