HRA Navigation Exercise - Sunday 3rd of April 2011

Dreaming of navigating to victory in a BP Rally or even an Experts ?
Learn to navigate like the experts !!!
The HRA is again running it’s successful Navigation Exercise, aimed at beginners wanting to learn the basics of rally navigating.
Last year we had an encouraging number of younger navigators teamed with parents or friends and some have gone on to compete in major HRA events.

Everyone welcome, no age restriction, no club membership necessary.

Starting and finishing at the East Malvern RSL and using roads bounded by High Street, Warrigal Road and the Monash Freeway, we have been able to incorporate most forms of navigation used in HRA events.

As with last year we will have experienced navigators on hand at the start to help you with your plotting and understanding of the instructions. As well we will have additional personnel placed strategically on the course for additional assistance.
It is not difficult and you can’t get lost – just temporarily displaced on the map!!! You will learn to enjoy the challenge and achievements of navigating and drivers will learn how to work together with their navigator. Remember that Rallying is very much a team sport.

Remember this is a learning exercise, there are no winners or losers and no time pressure, we want you to learn to enjoy map reading and the challenge interpreting the instructions correctly.

Vehicle trip meters will be quite adequate for the lesson however you may wish to use the exercise to familiarise yourselves with the use of a Terratrip or Halda.
You will need a compass (handheld is fine) and map plotting equipment...a map board or clipboard, ruler, pencils, eraser etc.
Maps and a Scaled Roamer will be supplied

You can use any type of car and no special licences are required so long as the driver has a valid driving licence.
