Opportunity to Acquire a Piece of Rally History

Sale of Baker/McAdam Repco Round Australia Commodore

Unfortunately, our syndicate has to sell the Repco Commodore which I have owned since about 1984/5 when I bought it off one the the original 1979 team members from Bega. David and I would like to give HRA members the first opportunity to acquire this piece of rally history.

The car is one of 16 built by GMH /HDT for the Repco reliability Around Australia Trial in 1979.
It was built in July 1979, coming from the factory with a re welded and strengthened body, full Bond alloy roll cage and sump guard, bilstein suspension and a 180 litre fuel tank and storage box in the boot. It is the only one of the 16 that has been used continually in club and state motorsport events ever since. It has naturally had a couple of complete rebuilds, but is still a very competent car in the forest. It has also run at Targa and won a Targa plate. It finished 14th on the Repco behind the three factory commodores of Brock, Ferguson and Mehta. Only 3 of the original 15 cars have survived, Brock’s, Ferguson’s and ours ( the 16th was the HDT test car). Its past results and a current condition are a testimony to its original build heritage.

The Commodore was campaigned by myself (co-driver) with Frank Kilfoyle (driver) in the 10,000km 1986 State Bank Discovery Trial(finished out of contention due to breakage), Gerry Bashford and myself in the Mobil 1 Round Australia Trial (21st O/R), many Victorian rallies with Gerry, David McAdam and Raymond Daniels (all navigating) with good success. David and I also ran the Red Centre to Gold Coast Trial (finished out of contention due to diff housing failure). David has also campaigned it in Victorian events for the past few years.

The Commodore will come with a good range of spares, wheels and tyres and the full written history of the main events competed in over the years.

The asking price is best offer over $30,000. This is one of the few modern day long distance pedigree rally cars that you could get in now and drive around Australia with very little preparation.
