Competition Update March 2014

Hello there from your new HRA Competition Secretary.
I am going to attempt to provide a regular update to all HRA members on coming events that are part of our club championships or are of other particular interest to members. If you have any info you would like to provide to members regarding events please contact me via email.

The first round of the HRA Rally Championship is the Blue Ribbon to be held in the forest around Heathcote and Rushworth on 29th March. This is the the first event for new Clerk of Course Paul McKinnon and promises to be a real cracker. Paul tells me that they are using many of the best roads in the area and that navigation will be straightforward.....yeah, yeah, I know, that is usually code for some nasty tricks thrown in just to prove how smart the directing team is but Paul assures me that it really will be very straightforward. Comparable to an average VCRS event in degree of difficulty. Rally HQ will be the Costerfield Hall which is a great venue for this type of event. If you are thinking of entering, the team have made it as easy as possible with an online entry form which you can find HERE and Supp Regs can be found on the HRA website CLICK HERE
As I said, this is Paul's first go at running his own rally and it's incredibly important that we throw our support behind his efforts and make it all worthwhile. Please support Paul and his team with your entry and if you can’t enter there are still lots of opportunities to offer your assistance as an official.

In other news the Ken Roddam Trial scheduled for 24th May has been cancelled due to issues in Tasmania with 80km/h speed restrictions which have been imposed on all gravel roads there. The directing team are investigating options and are hopeful of putting the event on next year.

As a result of this and the DEPI planning Fuel Reduction Burns in the areas to be used by the Rally du Mont Col on 26th of April we have applied for a change of date for this event to the 24th of May which was the date of the Ken Roddam. As soon as this is confirmed I'll let you know. Speaking of the Rally du Mont Col planning is well under way with the Road Director George Davidson saying the route is almost finished and Supp Regs awaiting approval pending the new date.

Breaking news is that the new Clerk of Course for the Powerplay Rallysprint is Russell Opie with yours truly as Assistant COC. A huge thank you must go to retiring COC Michael Conway for his vision and tenacity in getting this event up last year but unfortunately work commitments have made it impossible for him to continue. I spent the day with Stuart Lister on Sunday the 9th of March having a look at the roads for this event which are in fantastic condition as well as devising a couple of minor changes which should see the event run even more smoothly than last time. If you didn't do this event in 2013 you should seriously put it in your calendar for 2014 as the Shire roads used are absolutely awesome. One of the stages could almost be mistaken for a stage from the Otago Rally in New Zealand. Once again this event will utilise pace notes.

Final news item for this competition update is the introduction of the Forest Classic Series. This is an exciting new concept capturing some of the friendly competition, spirit and camaraderie which is found at the Alpine and a way of enticing some of those cars which we only ever seem to see at the Alpine to compete a bit more regularly. The Forest Classic Series (FCS) series, to be run over the course of one year will consist of 4 events, in an Alpine year the Alpine will be the final round. The four events for 2014 are:
Powerplay Rallysprint, Moornappa Mountain Rally, Bagshot Rallysprint and the Victoria Cross Rally.

That’s all for now, I'm planning on having another competition update in about a month or so.
Regards,
Owen.
