2008 Rich River attracts 46 entries

The 2008 Rich River entry list and start order are now available as an attachement at the event website at http://www.hra.org.au/index.php?q=node/416
Last year’s winners Alan Upton & Mark Laidlay have been installed as car #1 with Greg Gibson & Jenny Cole at #2 and David & Kate Officer at #3. Oddly enough, that’s exactly how they finished in last year’s Rich River!
The entry list includes a wide assortment of cars, predominantly from the late 60’s and early 70’s era. This includes Datsuns (1600, 180B and Stanza), Ford Escorts, Mitsubishi (Galants, Sigma, Starion), Peugeots (404, 504), Volvos, Toyotas and sole entries for a BMW 2002, Mazda 808, Triumph 2500 Mk1, Holden Ute, Holden Commodore, VW Golf, and a Hyundai Excel.
At the older end of the age spectrum, the field features three cars from the 1950’s - Graham Wallis/Dale Allan and Ian Ghiggino/Ian Reddoch in two Peugeot 203s and Matt Lambert/John Howell in a 1956 Hillman Minx.
The cars will assemble for a display in the Historic Port area in Echuca from 1:30pm on Saturday 12th July. First car departs the Bridge Hotel at 2:30pm on a 135km touring section that takes crews to a dinner break in Cohuna. Night sections follow in the Gunbower Island Forest before crews cross the border into NSW for another 3 sections in the Koondrook and Perricoota Forests, with the event finishing back at the Bridge Hotel in Echuca from 10:15pm onwards.
Recent wet weather will make conditions both interesting and variable. In addition to the challenges of navigation and driving in unfamiliar terrain (mostly in darkness), crews can expect to deal with mud, grids, gates, sandhills, yumps and lots of local wildlife.
Spectators can see crews in action very close to Cohuna and details of the location and times for the spectator point will be available from either the Bridge Hotel HQ or the Cohuna Memorial Hall on the day of the event.
Fuller details plus latest photos of the roads are all available at of the HRA website at www.hra.org.au/index.php?q=node/416
