The HRA December meeting, on Wednesday December 12 at 8:00 pm, will be an extravaganza! Here are 5 compelling reasons for you to attend:
It’s the HRA’s Christmas meeting and we have a very special present – Rally legend Barry Ferguson will be flying down from N.S.W. to be our guest speaker.
Barry will speak on the early days of rallying in N.S.W. contrasting it with what we were doing in Victoria, his involvement with 4 different manufacturers, the days of domination in the State and National Rally Championships with the Holden Dealer Team, the 1968 London Sydney and the ’79 Repco.
Barry Ferguson is one of Australia’s most respected and highly credentialed drivers, having won the N.S.W. rally championship no less than 9 times, and the Southern Cross Rally twice and runner up 4 times! He also ran in the 1968 London-Sydney Marathon and the 1979 Repco Reliability Trial for Holden, coming home in P2 as part of the dominating Holden Commodore 1-2-3 victory.
Can’t get there? As with other guest speakers this year, we will record the presentation for you and make it available on YOUTUBE. There will be links on the HRA website when it is ready.
Presentations of our 4 very special HRA awards will be made:
- The John Armitage memorial trophy for: MOST IMPROVED DRIVER 2018
- The Wal Harris memorial trophy for: MOST IMPROVED NAVIGATOR 2018
- The Hilary Garth memorial trophy for: OFFICIAL OF THE YEAR 2018
- The HRA CLUBMAN OF THE YEAR 2018
Be there to applaud to the winners of these prestigious awards (or who knows, you could be receiving one!)
The trophies for the Grand Autocross Tour from last September will be presented.
It’s our massive Christmas hamper give-away. HRA members in attendance will each receive a ticket to go in the draw for a chance to win 1 of 15 hampers, plus store vouchers and other prizes. Entry is free.
Our regular raffle: tickets 3 for $5. All the proceeds from our meeting raffle will support RURAL AID.
Rural Aid was founded in 2015 to provide a holistic support program to rural Australia. The starting point for the charity was the success of the “Buy a Bale” campaign, which Australians have generously donated to allowing the distribution of fodder, hampers and more. They understand the needs of our primary producers and aim to lend a helping hand when times are tough.
Buy a raffle ticket to win a prize (or even a coveted/much maligned HRA Gnome) and support Rural Aid.
As you may have heard, the Gnomes will be stopping at number 100 so there are a 7 more opportunities to be burdened with one On that point – can YOU bring along something (other than a Gnome) for a raffle prize?
As usual, meals are available from 6:30 pm before the meeting gets underway at 8:00 pm – the regular venue at the East Malvern R.S.L., Stanley Grose Drive, East Malvern. (Melway Map 60, ref A12)
All welcome. Come along and have a Barry Christmas with us. See you there.
