…from the 1970s – but still relevant!
We recently tripped over these lecture notes from Roger Bonhomme’s Rally Navigation School thanks to a donation to the HRA Archive by Ron Gottschalk.
Roger’s Rally Navigation School was held over three February evenings in 1972 at Monash Uni’s Alexander Theatre – to an audience of hundreds. At a massive cost of $2.00 per head…
Obviously time has caught up with some of the details. For example, CAMS is no longer in Burke Road and Road Event Licences cost more than $3!
But, much of this doc is still useful – particularly the information and tips about rally navigation.
Certainly, members competing in the Experts Trial Re-visited may find it useful and interesting!
Roger, a HRA member, was very well qualified to lecture about navigation.
In the late 60s and early 70s he was a regular competitor in Championship and International events like the Ampol Trial, the Dulux Rally and the Southern Cross, navigating for legends including Brian Culcheth, John Keran, Barry Ferguson, Harry Kallstrom and Edgar Hermann.

Thanks Roger!
